How to fall in love with yourself

Quick reminder:

This newsletter is my unfiltered account of growing a one-person business.

And because I believe in holistic success, I'm also sharing how my physical, mental, spiritual, and philosophical pursuits are instrumental in achieving this goal.

By opening up about my path, I hope to inspire you to find your own proven approach.

Road to £15K MRR: November Update

[01/11/24 - 16/11/24]

I started this business 409 days ago with nothing but an idea and a willingness to fail.

I've had months of zero revenue where quitting felt like the only logical choice.

I've had months that exceeded what I thought was possible.

I've woken up excited.

I've woken up terrified.

Sometimes both in the same day.

And now, here’s where we stand…

If you missed the last update, In August, my business hit a record revenue of £11,850 (which still feels surreal).

Pretty close to the goal of £15K but a good chunk of that revenue came from billing a client for 6 months of work upfront.

Obviously, this wasn’t reflected in the following months.

September and October both sat at £7K in revenue.

Now we’re halfway through November and I wanted to sit down and write this update today.

So far this month, the business has brought it £9.4K in revenue.

Running costs are sitting at ~£300, plus end of year tax deductions.

And just the other day, an unexpected opportunity came to light - a potential business partnership that could completely transform everything I've built.

I can’t say much, but it involves a heavy-hitting entrepreneur I’ve looked up to for a long time (more on that soon...).

Obviously, the goal is still £15k MRR but I'm not rushing to it either.

My main focus is consistently increasing the standard of service I deliver for my current clients.

I'm happy to work with some amazing creators right now so over delivering for them is my primary goal.

What should you take away from this?

As I write this update, I'm thinking about the version of me from 6 years ago.

The version who knew what he wanted but couldn't seem to bridge the gap between dreams and reality.

Here's what I've learned about that gap:

It's not about talent. It's not about luck. It's not even about opportunity.

It's about integrity with yourself.

Every time you make a promise to yourself and break it, you're creating what I call an "Integrity Gap":

  • Between who you are and who you say you'll be

  • Between what you do and what you say you'll do

  • Between your potential and your reality

And it's the root of all your self-doubt, low confidence, and stalled progress.

Every time you break a promise to yourself, you're widening that gap.

You’re telling your subconscious that you can't be trusted.

Your word becomes worthless, even to yourself.

It’s a slow erosion of self-trust that manifests as:

  1. Chronic Self-Doubt: You stop believing in your own abilities.

  2. Decision Paralysis: You overthink every choice, fearing another failure.

  3. Imposter Syndrome: Success feels undeserved because you know the truth about your follow-through.

  4. Lowered Ambitions: You set smaller goals to avoid disappointment.

  5. Excuse Addiction: You become a master of rationalising your shortcomings.

But here's the good news:

This same mechanism that can break you is also what can transform you.

Every time you keep a promise to yourself, no matter how small, you're building something powerful: Self-trust.

And self-trust is the foundation of everything.

First comes self-trust. Then comes certainty. Then comes a quiet, unshakeable confidence that no external force can give or take away.

Suddenly, you're no longer the person who hopes things will work out.

You become the person who knows they will find a way.

Not because of optimism.

But because you have evidence.

Irrefutable evidence of your own capability and worth.

You begin to operate from a different place:

  • Where challenges become opportunities to prove yourself right

  • Where setbacks become setups for comebacks

  • Where the voice of doubt gets quieter because your track record speaks louder

Honestly, perhaps that's the most profound part of this journey.

To look back on the person you’ve become while keeping promises to yourself, that no one else can see.

When no one would know if you didn't.

Nothing material on this earth can give you that kind of fulfilment.

If you can't fight your fear, do it scared.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy the rest of your day,

Hmm signature
